Elin Kåven, now living in Oslo, is a Sami artist from the Sami village Karasjok in Northern-Norway. She is also a well known Tribal Fusion dancer and teacher. Jiknon musihkka - Frozen Music is her first full CD. Earlier she has released an EP, Lahka (Close) 2005, with some of her songs.
Together with the producer Ole Jørn Myklebust, and a group of well-established Norwegian musicians, she creates meditative music resembling mythical and modern sound with the presence of traditional elements from the Sami yoik. With her own written texts in Sami language, she introduces a musical landscape that mixes new folk, pop, world, jazz and elements from traditional Sami music. Intense and quiet vocal with a suggestive music rich in detail, opens up for a flowing expression. On stage, a new dimension of her music as dance is experienced as a natural part of her performance.
She has given a number of performances in Norway and she won the Sami Grand Prix first prize in the Sami Easter Festival in Kautokeino in 2008 with her song Áibbas jaska (All still). This took her to Luleå in Sweden where she participated in the Liet Lavlut European Song Contest for Minority Languages.
