Týr is a progressive ethno metal band, founded by Faroese students in Jan. '98 in Denmark. Ancient rythms and melodies from the Faroese ballads. Mostly English lyrics on subjects taken from the Old Norse Mythology and the Icelandic sagas, but reflecting on the present. Also inspired by bands like Black Sabbath, Metallica and Dream Theater. Týr were awarded "Best Band", and "Most Popular Band" in the Melody Maker Awards 2002, the leading Danish rock contest.
