Gestir were formed in the autumn of 2002, and won the bi-annual "Prix Føroyar" contest in 2003. Since then the band has put the finishing touches on their debut album entitled "Burtur frá toftunum" ("Away from the ruins"). "Burtur frá toftunum" contains 12 songs, half of which feature strings arrangements by Rosabella Gregory, performed by London based quartet Dirty Pretty Strings.
The bulk of the album was recorded at Lundgaard Studios in Vejen, Denmark & at Vestry Hall Studios, London, England by recording engineer Jens L. Thomsen (Høgni Lisberg, Knút Háberg Eysturstein etc.).
"Burtur frá toftunum" is produced by Jens L. Thomsen, Ólavur Jákupsson & Gestir. The album is mixed by Gareth Parton, who amongst others has worked with The GO! Team, Placebo, The Killers, The Futureheads & Death In Vegas.
The album is mastered by mastering engineer Miles Showell. During his time, Miles has worked with such artists as Portishead, The Eurythmics, Fat Boy Slim, Faithless, George Michael, The White Stripes, Gorillaz & Moloko to mention but a few.
